The sector exported 7,403 vehicles, 67.7% less than the previous month and it recorded a fall of 28.9% if compared with the volume of January 2018.

In wholesale sales, the sector marketed to the dealer network 30,038 units, which showed a decline of 38% compared to December and of 53.4% compared to January last year.

The monthly report of the Association of Automotive Makers (ADEFA) shows that, in the first month of 2019 the automotive terminals produced 14,803 vehicles (cars and utility vehicles), which results in a 27.7% drop compared to December and a 32.3% decline in comparison with the same month of 2018 when 21,858 units were produced.

"The performance of January, with the carry-over from December, leads to be very cautious about the behavior that the sector will have in the year", said Luis Fernando Peláez Gamboa, president of ADEFA and in this sense he recalled that "in 2018, the market and industry started with an inertia that led the estimates towards record volumes. However, financial turbulence led to conclude the year with sales and production numbers closer to the local historical average behavior".

In this regard, he added that "with the shutdowns of December and their extension in the first month, production fell, an impact that was seen in exports, therefore it remains to see the behavior the market will have once the first quarter of the year over. In the meantime, we continue working on new international negotiations and on the search of the improvement of competitiveness, "said the executive.

The automakers exported 7,403 vehicles between cars and light utility vehicles in January, reflecting a drop of 67.7% in relation to the volume exported in December and a 28.9% drop compared to the same period last year.

Finally, the monthly statistics indicated that the sales to dealers stood at 30,038 units, that is, they had a decline of 38% compared to December and a decrease of 53.4% according to the performance of the same month last year, when they delivered 64,452 units to the dealer network.
